Custom Home Builders in Ventura County | Master Construction

Home Builders Serving Ventura County Since 1994

Hiring home builders in Ventura County is personal. It is your money, your family, and your daily life on the line. Master Construction has built custom homes, home additions, and whole house remodels here for over 30 years as a family owned company, and it shows in how we treat yours. Our licensed crews (Lic. #1027281) take projects from first sketch to final walkthrough with design, permits, and construction all under one roof.

From Dream to Drawings to Done

Our design and build team works closely with you from the start, turning ideas into 3D renderings you can walk through before committing a dollar to construction. Because the designers and builders share an office, the plans you fall in love with are plans we can actually build on your budget, not a fantasy that dies in bidding.

The build itself follows the same discipline. Foundations get compaction verified before concrete goes in, not after a crack shows up. Framing is straightened and shimmed before drywall, because a wavy wall telegraphs through every coat of paint. Rough plumbing and electrical get photographed before the walls close, so five years from now anyone can see exactly what sits behind the drywall. Small habits, but they are the difference between a house that photographs well and a house that holds up.

Our Residential Process

Three decades of homes taught us what keeps projects happy:

  • Listen first. Your lifestyle, wish list, and budget drive the design.
  • Design and render. Plans and 3D visuals refined until they feel right.
  • Price honestly. Detailed scope and a number you can trust before we break ground.
  • Build with care. A clean site, weekly communication, and one number to call.
  • Finish completely. A punch list walked together and closed out fully.

Custom Home Builders Who Know This Coast

From ground up custom homes to whole house remodels, home additions, and room additions, we build around how your family actually lives, not around a stock floor plan. Structural work, ADUs, and high end finishes are all in our wheelhouse, delivered by the same family owned team of builders that has been at work in this county since 1994.

Coastal Ventura County is its own building climate. Salt air corrodes standard fasteners, so exterior connectors near the beach get hot dipped galvanized or stainless hardware. Marine layer moisture means stucco and framing need real dry time before anything gets sealed up. Hillside lots in Ojai and view lots above Ventura bring grading and drainage reviews that contractors from over the hill have never sat through. We have, since 1994.

Questions

Residential Construction - FAQ

Are you licensed and insured to build homes in Ventura County?

Yes. Master Construction holds California contractor license #1027281 and carries full liability and workers compensation coverage. You can verify the license yourself on the CSLB website. We have been family owned and building in this county since 1994.

Do you handle the permits and inspections, or is that on me?

We handle them. Plans, permit submittals, plan check corrections, and scheduling inspections are all part of what we do. Because our designers and builders work in the same office, drawings go to the city already knowing what the field crews need.

What actually drives the cost of a custom home or major remodel?

Square footage matters less than people expect. The real drivers are structural work, foundation and site conditions, how many plumbing and electrical points move, window and door counts, and finish level. We price a detailed scope before breaking ground so the number you sign is the number you pay.

Can I see the design before I commit to building?

Yes. Our design and planning team produces 3D renderings you can walk through before a dollar goes into construction. Because the same company builds what it draws, the plans you approve are plans we can actually build on your budget.

How long does a home addition or ADU take to build?

Plan on two to four months of design and permitting, then four to eight months of construction for a typical addition or detached ADU. Plan check timelines vary by city, and Ventura's VenturaOPS portal moves faster some months than others. We give you a written schedule at contract, update it weekly, and tell you when something slips rather than letting you find out from an empty driveway.

Can we live in the house during a major remodel?

Usually, yes. We phase the work so a bathroom and a way to cook stay functional, seal off the construction zone with dust barriers, and shut water and power down in scheduled windows rather than surprises. Whole house remodels and second story additions are the exception, since taking a roof off over your bed is nobody's idea of comfort. We tell you honestly which kind of project yours is before you sign.

What kind of warranty do you offer on new construction and remodels?

California requires a one year workmanship warranty and ten years on structural work, and we stand behind both. More practically, we are a family company that has been at this since 1994 with an office on Thompson Blvd, not a truck and a cell number. If something settles, sticks, or leaks after we leave, you call the same people who built it.

Do you use your own crews or subcontractors?

Both, depending on the trade and the project. What does not change is who is accountable. We hold the contract, we run the schedule, and you deal with us rather than with five separate trades. Every subcontractor we bring on is licensed and insured and works to our scope, not their own.
