Electrical Contractor Ventura County | Master Construction

Licensed Electricians for Ventura County Homes

Electrical work is the one trade where cutting corners can burn the whole investment down. Master Construction is a licensed electrical contractor serving all of Ventura County, handling everything from a dead outlet to panel upgrades, EV charger circuits, and full remodel wiring. Family owned since 1994, our team (Lic. #1027281) does clean, code compliant work that passes inspection the first time.

Panel Upgrades and 200 Amp Service

A panel upgrade to 200 amp service is the project behind more of our electrical calls than anything else, because homes built decades ago were never wired for EV chargers, induction ranges, home offices, and air conditioning running at once. We replace the panel, add dedicated circuits, and bring capacity up to what your household actually draws today, so breakers stop tripping and you stop playing appliance roulette every summer afternoon.

The workmanship shows in the small stuff. Breaker lugs get torqued to spec with a torque screwdriver, not snugged by feel, because a loose lug is where heat starts. New circuits get AFCI or GFCI protection where code calls for it, junctions land in accessible boxes, and every breaker in the panel gets a label that says what it actually controls. When we leave, you can stand at the panel and know exactly what you are looking at.

Our Process as Ventura County Electricians

Safe work follows a careful sequence:

  • Troubleshoot. We trace the fault to its source instead of guessing at symptoms.
  • Plan and price. Clear scope, permit handling, and upfront pricing.
  • Install. Wiring, panels, and fixtures installed neatly and to current code.
  • Inspect and test. Every circuit load tested and city inspections passed.
  • Patch and paint. Any walls we open, we close and refinish ourselves.

Lighting That Changes How a Space Feels

Nothing transforms a room faster than proper lighting. We design and install recessed lighting, under cabinet systems, exterior and landscape lighting, and dimmer controls that make ten year old rooms feel brand new. As part of our remodel work we plan lighting into the design from day one instead of bolting it on at the end.

Ventura County housing stock keeps us honest. The 1920s bungalows near downtown Ventura still hide knob and tube above the plaster, the midcentury tracts in Oxnard and Camarillo run on services that were generous in 1962, and salt air corrodes exterior panels and meter mains faster near the beach. We know what each vintage hides, we coordinate service upgrades with Edison, and we schedule the city inspection so your power is back on the same day.

Questions

Electrical - FAQ

Do I need a panel upgrade?

Common signs are a fuse box, a panel under 100 amps, breakers that trip under normal load, or plans that add an EV charger, heat pump, solar, or an ADU. We evaluate actual load rather than guessing from the panel label.

Is knob and tube or aluminum wiring dangerous?

Both need professional evaluation. Knob and tube has no ground and its insulation is well past its service life. Aluminum branch wiring is a known connection failure risk and insurers ask about it. Neither is automatically an emergency, and neither should be ignored.

Can you add outlets, recessed lighting, or a ceiling fan?

Yes, including the drywall patching and paint touch up afterward, so you are not left with open walls and a separate contractor to find.

Do electrical jobs need permits?

New circuits, panel work, and service upgrades do. Like for like device replacement usually does not. Permitted work matters at resale, and unpermitted electrical is a standard escrow problem. We pull what is required.

How much does a panel upgrade or new circuit cost?

Panel size, how far the new run sits from the panel, whether walls are open or finished, and what the inspector will require alongside the work, like smoke detector or GFCI updates. Fishing wire through finished plaster takes longer than wiring an open remodel. We scope it on site and give you a fixed written quote before anything gets cut open.

How long does a panel upgrade take?

The swap itself is usually one day, with power off for most of it. The full timeline includes utility coordination and the city inspection, which we schedule before we start so you are not living on extension cords waiting for a sign off. Service relocations and mast repairs add time, and you get that schedule up front.

Can you rewire my house while I live in it?

Yes, and most people do. We work room by room, keep circuits live everywhere we are not working, and patch and paint as we go instead of leaving the whole house open. A full rewire on an occupied home typically runs a few weeks depending on size and attic access, and we walk the sequence with you before day one.

Are you licensed for electrical work?

Yes, under California contractor license #1027281, with full liability and workers compensation coverage.
