Demolition and Excavation Contractors in Ventura County

Every project that builds something up starts by tearing something down. Master Construction provides demolition services and excavation across Ventura County, from interior gut jobs and pool removals to full structure teardowns and commercial site grading. Family owned since 1994, our licensed crews (Lic. #1027281) demo safely, haul legally, and leave a site that is truly ready to build on.

Demolition Is a Precision Trade

Good demo is surgical. We protect what stays, cap utilities properly, check for asbestos and lead in older structures before disturbing them, and separate debris for recycling and legal disposal. The difference between a clean demo and a careless one shows up weeks later in your schedule, your budget, and your inspection record.

Excavation has its own discipline. We pothole to verify utility depths before the bucket goes in, not after. Cuts get benched or shored past five feet, spoils are stockpiled where they will not surcharge a neighbor's fence, and engineered fill goes back in lifts with compaction verified, not eyeballed. On tight lots we match the machine to the access, down to a mini excavator that fits through a garden gate.

Our Demolition and Excavation Process

Controlled from first swing to final grade:

  • Site assessment. Utilities located, hazards checked, and the demo plan mapped out.
  • Permits. Demolition permits and hazardous material clearances handled.
  • Disconnect and protect. Utilities capped and neighboring structures protected.
  • Demolition. Structures removed safely with the right equipment for the job.
  • Excavation and grading. Site cut, filled, compacted, and graded ready for the next phase.

Site Prep That Sets Up the Build

Because we are usually the ones building what comes next, our excavation work anticipates the build instead of complicating it. Footings get cut to plan, grades match the drainage design, and trenching lines up with where plumbing and electrical actually run. Your foundation crew shows up to a site that is ready, not a problem to solve.

Commercial excavation runs through the same crews. As excavating contractors for retail, office, and industrial sites, we cut building pads, parking lot subgrades, and wet and dry utility trenches, and we phase the work so an occupied center keeps its doors open while the ground changes around it.

Ventura County adds its own paperwork, and we carry it. Most cities here, including the City of Ventura's Building & Safety division, want a demolition permit backed by utility release letters, and state diversion rules mean every load gets weighed and ticketed at an approved facility. We keep the tickets and file the diversion report so final inspection is not held up over a missing receipt. Hillside lots in Ojai and the Ventura foothills often trigger grading permits and erosion control, so we plan both into the schedule from day one.

Questions

Demolition and Excavation - FAQ

Do you handle the debris and disposal?

Yes. Hauling, dumpsters, and legal disposal are included in the scope. California requires construction and demolition debris diversion in most jurisdictions, and the recycling documentation cities ask for is part of what we provide.

What about asbestos or lead paint in an older house?

Homes built before 1980 need testing before demolition, and this is not optional. If testing comes back positive, abatement is done by a licensed abatement contractor under separate permit before we demolish. We will not cut into suspect material to save a step.

Can you demolish part of a house without damaging the rest?

Yes. Selective demolition is most of what we do on remodels. We shore what needs shoring, protect what stays, and seal the work area so the rest of the house stays livable.

What drives the cost of demolition?

Size and construction type set the baseline. From there it is access for equipment, whether the structure is attached to something staying, hazardous material abatement, how much concrete is in the ground, and disposal tonnage. We walk the site, then give you a fixed scope quote so the number you approve is the number you pay.

How long does demolition take?

The demo itself is fast. An interior gut runs a few days, a detached garage a day or two, a full house teardown about a week including foundation removal. The longer pole is what comes first: utility disconnects and permit sign-offs, which we start early so the machine is not sitting idle waiting on the gas company.

How do you keep dust and noise under control?

Water suppression on every mechanical demo, poly containment and negative air on interior work, and hours that respect each city's noise ordinance. Streets get swept, and neighbors get a heads up before the first loud day. Marine layer mornings actually help, since damp air keeps dust down.

Do you do excavation for foundations and pools?

Yes, along with grading, trenching for utilities, and site preparation. Because we also handle concrete, the excavation is dug to what the foundation actually needs rather than to a generic depth.
